Gabriel grew up surfing in Santos and only stepped onto a mat at eighteen. He took silver at the Worlds as a brown belt and his black belt shortly after, and has been competing ever since: close to a hundred recorded wins at 76 kg, most of them off the armbar.
In 2012 he and Thiago Abreu opened a gym of their own in Santos. It became The House FC.
